Full Suspension Mountain Bike Frames
Purchasing a full suspension frame is ideal for the more serious off-road biker.
Regular use and long distances are made much more comfortable when shocks and bumps are absorbed by your bike’s suspension.
When you consider full suspension MTB bike frames, be sure to look at the selection of aluminium frames. Not only are they the most common materials used, they are by far the most affordable.
Modern aluminium and frames are strong, lightweight and hold up well for downhill racing, cross country, trail riding and all-round all-mountain use.
Other options for full suspension MTB bike frames include titanium and carbon; there are many advantages to spending the extra money to have one of yours made from one of these materials. For example, titanium will not corrode or rust and is scratch resistant, since titanium frames are generally polished rather than painted, while a good quality carbon is lighter and stiffer than other fabrics.
There are several styles of bikes that come with varying full suspension frames. Downhill mountain bikes have the most suspension travel. These bikes are designed for steep course races and trails. Due to the long travel suspension and high impact strength, downhill bikes tend to be heavier than most but are still lightweight enough to be ideal for racing, since there are no real climbs in a downhill race!
Heading out on local backcountry trails with a fully suspended trail or XC mountain bike will provide riders with a great system that is ideal for awkward or hard-to-handle terrain.
One thing to keep in mind about fully suspended trail bikes is that extraneous pedalling is often required due to the increased suspension, and the more expensive suspension link systems are developed to minimise the pedal-bob while climbing or sprinting.
A great choice for the adventurous is the freeride mountain bike. This type of bike has been designed to function as both a downhill and cross-country bike. It is not as efficient as each would be separately however it is still a great option for those who want one bike to do it all and handle the really big drops and hucks as well as the climbs.
